Nice List. But you failed to list one of the best films of the year "Slumdog Millionaire", which deserves to be there. Along with Danny Boyle as Best Director. Now i haven't seen Nixon, Benjamin Button, The Wrestler or Revolutionary Road, so ill give them the benefit of the doubt. I have seen The Dark Knight and it was without a doubt a great film, But unless any of those other films are any worse, i would have to replace Slumdog Millionaire with TDK. Which i believe will happen regardless.

No Country for Old Men won Best Picture at the 2008 Oscars...the nominations for the 2009 Oscars will be announced in January of 2009 (all 2008 films will be eligible at the 2009 oscars).

"Ok listen, I have not been this excited over a movie since I don't know when. I'm telling you have I got the movie for you!

It's the BEST MOVIE I've seen in a long, long, long, long time.

It literally swept me off my feet. The audience saw it last night. Did you not think that that was some movie?

Was that a movie? (audience go into hysterics)
Was that a movie?
Was that a movie?

Oh my goodness!!

I mean they just don't make movies like that anymore, they really don't.

Didn't you laugh? And I KNOW you cried. Weren't you on the edge of your seat?
Oh my God and what can we say about Hugh Jackman? (fans face) Be with me, be with me.

Anyway this is the movie to see over thanksgiving. it is epic, it is majestic, it is a romantic, it is a spectacle and the scenery is so gorgeous you can barely stand it. It is everything a great movie should be. The new Baz Luhrmann film called "Australia"

Australia's to stereotypical a film to win at the oscars...it was like how when Pearl Harbour was being made people thought 'oh it's a 3 hour epic that's a love story, it'll sweep the oscars.' But it didn't, it's the same run of the mill movie that we get so many of...it might get a nomination or two to fill in the gaps, but I don't see it winning anything because it's nothing special. There's also a very real chance that it'll flop critically and financially.

It's good, but you're right, it's not really anything special. We've seen films like it before.

I haven't seen too many memorable films this year, and as usual, most of the late contenders I probably won't get a chance to see to make any real predictions.

Slumdog Millionaire was certainly more unique than many of the offerings.

Milk has a lot going for it also.

Dark Knight is a great action/thriller/adventure film, but I doubt it will win anything but the usual awards for that genre. To be honest, it was almost too much to take in during one viewing.

I'm sorry, but Batman fans need to relax and realize that usually the best films are ones they don't go see. TDK is not in the top 5 no matter how good fans think it was.

These were very tough choices and setting aside my bias....

Best Picture: The Wrestler
Best Director: Darren Aronofsky
Best Actor: Brad Pitt
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress: Amy Ryan

How about everyone go see the best picture nominees when they release them thurs. Saying that TDK should win Best Picture with out seeing the other movies is bs. How can you make that assumption without seeing the other movies? If the TDK night just gets nominated for best picture its good enough for me. Thats an honor in itself!

My predictions for best picture are:
The Wrestler
Milk
Frost/Nixon
Slumdog Millionaire
TDK (Hey i still want it to be nominated it was still a great film!)

Gran Torino probably wont get a nom in Best Picture...I wouldn't want it to anyways. I don't think a film about a racist old man that goes around hunting minorities should win awards. There's something wrong with that...I get that Eastwood is trying to show depth but I think this is a serious backlash. I think the top 5 will be...

- Slumdog Millionaire
- The Dark Knight
- Milk
- Frost/Nixon
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I'm changing my original prediction...
