I have to go with Titanic, a disaster by the academy, I mean best picture was bad enough but 14 nominations, you got to be kidding me, it did not even deserve half that amount.just my opinion. I think close seconds would ironically be the year before with The English Patient and in 1941 for "HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY", which was picked over "Citizen Kane" "The Maltese Falcon." Those are the ones that stand out for me, any other takes?

I'm not really disagreeing with you, but there were simply a lot of movies nominated in the categories for which is won that were much weaker films.

Besides, for sheer achievement, industry voters like successful films.

LA Confidential was the only movie in the Best Picture category that really stood any chance, and the awards Titanic won were not acting awards.

Annie Hall: not because it's a terrible movie or anything, but because Star Wars should have won by a mile.

Annie Hall. Aside from the fact that it beat Star Wars (WTF?), has Woody Allen ever been funny to anyone who doesn't live in New York?

I personally hate sappy movies, so Titanic and Million Dollar Baby are the mistakes to me.(Go ahead and hate me)

I also hope brokeback doesn't win....

Why wasn't SWEP3 nominated for more than makeup effects??

Obviously Brokeback Mountain will win because in Hollywood, to get an Oscar you have to play a homosexual (preferably one who kills people) or a retard (preferably one who plays ping pong).

in my opinion i think that american beauty and million dollar baby were the worst choices by the academy, i thought Ray was a hella lot better than million dollar baby, the main reason i hated it was because it was just another dumb boxing movie, dont get me wrong, Ali was a good movie and so were the rocky movies but its like every year they come out with like 2-3 boxing movies, and it just gets annoying

shakespeare in love. i cant believe saving private ryan was snubbed so bad, never had i sat in a theatre where people actually clapped after the film was over, half the audience were veterans, the other half were young guys like me who had to sneak into see it, i dont know, that was just something that stuck with me and maybe that is why i feel shakespeare in love did not deserve that best picture oscar.

Please can somebody tell me what it is with you people and the word retard, I myself have been called this ridiculous word, so please before people go and open their mouths and disengage their brains, might it be better if people actually had a proper look at this thing/person they are labelling a retard. This is a very offensive word to me, so please tell me why you use it.

I would say its a cross between whatever won over Citizen Kane, Titanic and Shakespeare in Love when it won over Saving Private Ryan. I hate Titanic.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS winning over GIANT was an utter joke. Do people even talk about that movie today? Kind of like how no one will be talking about A BEAUTIFUL MIND.
