May 1, 2004 — I know some of us 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' fans were holding out some sliver of hope that our favorite gill-man might make some sort of cameo appearance in 'Van Helsing' (especially since his self-titled movie doesn't seem to be going anywhere), but looks like we're just gonna have to keep waiting. This comes from Zap2It:
The scaly, misunderstood Creature from the Black Lagoon got axed from the first version of the "Van Helsing" script, which brings classic Universal monsters together.
Director Stephen Sommers, who made "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" for Universal, gathered up the Wolf Man, Frankenstein's monster, Igor, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Count Dracula and his brides for "Van Helsing," which stars Hugh Jackman as the lead vampire hunter. But, Sommers confirms that the Creature didn't make the cut.
"We had a castle that had a moat, and who better than the Creature from the Black Lagoon to be living there, but that was only in the first draft of the script," Sommers says. "He didn't make it in any of the other versions, and we never shot a scene with him in it. It was just too much."
Lame, Steve! Lame! The Creature-less 'Van Helsing' opens May 7th. |
