April 21, 2002 — Kevin Mishner, producer of the Scorpion King says that The Mummy 3 may still be made, but that the Scorpion King will probably not make a return in the series.
Misher says, "Hopefully it is a film on its own, there was just a sense that you hope you're starting your own franchise, but obviously there's a connectivity to the character that was created, one of the producers of the movie and one of the writers of the movie were obviously the creators of the character and creators of the franchise, so obviously there is a connectivity, but it is its own separate, stand-alone thing now, and hopefully in the movie we give a little bit of a wink and a nod that somewhere down the road there's a sense that we'll explain how he becomes the bad guy."
"Mummy" director Stephen Sommers isn't yet writing a third installment of the film, and stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have been quoted as saying they feel like their days in the franchise are over.
