June 17, 2004 — According to a recent press release, Guillermo del Toro is officially a finalist in the Best Director category in the 2004 Imagen Awards, "a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to encourage and recognize the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media, and to increase Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry." del Toro is up against director Robert Rodriguez for 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico'.
