| Disney Pulls Out of Third Narnia Film |

Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media have confirmed that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader with Walden.
The Hollywood Reporter says the third installment was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt, adds the trade. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were to return for the third film.
Walden has a strong relationship with the C.S. Lewis estate and will shop "Treader" in hopes of finding a new partner. The most likely candidate at this stage is Fox, which markets and distributes Walden fare under the Fox Walden banner.
Any partnership on a "Narnia" movie will require a substantial investment, however. "Caspian," which filmed in the Czech Republic, Mexico and New Zealand, cost $200 million. The first film, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," was shot mostly in New Zealand for $180 million.

Its well known that Narnia is a big money maker, and frankly its really foolish for disney to not invest in this movie. How much did the other 2 movies make? I bet enough to cover the cost of the next two movies themselves
The first movie, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, which people actually know, made tons of money. The second film bombed and lost money. Disney is smart to cut their losses.
I disagree.
The second film was ten times better than the first and what if anything does that tell us?
That despite lackluster sales (which isn't even fair, the movie still made a load of money) because Caspian was good means that the third film will do better than either of the first two.
Disney is being dumb. Take a calculated risk. And to me, it isn't even a risk.
Looks like we have something else in common.
While I don't agree that the second film was better than the first, I absolutely agree that they will get better and that Disney should have taken a calculated risk and kept going with the series.
I've always considered Prince Caspian to be the most boring of the seven books, and now it looks like the entire franchise may be in horrible danger since every single aspect of the films may be changed.
They may no longer be with Disney, but they need to keep as many things the same as they can, including the actors and director.

Disney is being dumb. Take a calculated risk. And to me, it isn't even a risk. The film had lackluster sales because no one knows any of the other books. Once you get past The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, there isn't any name recognition. I am sure Disney hoped that the success of the first movie would have generated interest in the other parts, but it didn't. They lost money on the second film. So it only makes sense to cut their losses.
Again, I disagree.
And I think you're oversimplifying the situation.
While no one would disagree that the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe has the best name recognition, more people are familiar with these stories than you're admitting. Not to mention people are familiar with the franchise having established that the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA is a series via two major motion pictures that did well.
I think most people grew up with these books in some way. They may not have read them all themselves, but at least they probably had a friend, teacher, parent or someone else they knew along the way that has read the series.
I myself remember reading several. Funny enough, I don't remember reading Prince Caspian but I still knew it was a Narnia film.
The last book I actually remember reading is the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
As much of the country is left stranded for Christmas due to a storm, I wonder what are their thoughts on the credibility of Global Warming? HAHA...
