All that real looking CGI and everything..only cost this film $10 million to make

thats basactly enough for film, cameras and to get them to japan...the actors would have got nothing (they will now).

Well this is aparently Sam Riami's company..their first film..so i guess that while they where doing CGI on the $230 million Spider-man 2..they pushed a little of that doe onto this film..it payed off

The Ring cost $50 million to make (no CGI) and made $130 million

Simple answer: Japanese location and crew. In Japan, $10 million is a HUGE budget (in fact, The Grudge was the most expensive movie ever made in the Toho lot)--not even counting the fact that for the remake, they actually built the entire house inside a soundstage (the originals used a real house). The original Ring was made for barely over $1 million; the classic Battle Royale for $4.5 million.

Let's not forget that Japan does have a film industry, and equipment and supplies didn't necessarily have to be shipped overseas; only the American cast and a few crewmembers had to be imported. Japanese special effects may not be LOTR-level, but they can pull off some really interesting stuff (Avalon, Returner, Final Fantasy: Advent Children).

i come to work that out...hero only cost $30 million to make and I did research and realised that $10 million is heeps for japan
