Well The Grudge was orginally made by the same person who made The Ring, thus y it looks so similiar, so I wouldn't doubt that it has a Ring feeling to it, but idk which would b scarier

I am VERY fortunate to have seem BOTH in the original japanese version on a gigantic MOVIE SCREEN!

which by the way is WAY better then the american versions.

and the grudge, although quite similar have quite a few differences between em.

The Ringu is definately better in my opinion.

but Ju-on (the japanese title) is an AWSOME movie.

whoever watches both movies in the raw japanese version is quite the lucky person to have witnessed what horror movies need to be.

these are the types of movies we have to experience.

if you guys want another good horror movie, try "one missed call". its definately a good movie. but these 2 are better in my opinion.

Watch something in the way it was created. never assume a remade version is better if u havent seen the original

Go get the Grudge out from your local DVD store. The japanese version of it (original!!) has been out for a while!!

I enjoy watching horror movies, and The Ring was cool, especial the scene where the girl comes out of the TV. So it's a no brainer that I'm going to see this movie!

The whole idea of the grudge is like the ring. When the hand comes out of the head, its like when the girl climbs out of the t.v. When the girl walks down the staris, she walks like the girl in the ring. Finally, notice all the incidents occur near water, just like the ring. I,m willing to bet that the spirit was probably drowned. How obvious!!!

The Kid meowing in the trailer is scary as hell! I think it already beats the ring.


But the ring wasn't that scary for me. During the 2 hours of watching it I was kinda freaked, but when it was over i wasn't, like, checking under my bed or anything.

This movie is going to be fun watching though. I mean, I'm going to let myself be scared. Even if it isn't that scary I'm gonna play along, or tease my friends who are, either or really.

man i was pumped up to see the ring. i thought we had another horror classic on our hands and from frame 1 to the last frame i jus sat there. the movie was boring, uninteresting, and ridiculous. luckily i saw it at a friends house so i didnt have to waste my money on such filth.

I didn't find The Ring scary at all. The Japanese version was alot better, still not scary though. I just found it boring. Watching a video made something 'mysterious' happen. Abit crap eh?

To answer the question at hand .. it may very well be as scary or scarier than The Ring. But at the back of my mind I am wondering the same thing: willit live up to the hype or be a big annoying waste of time and money?
The two movies do seem very similar, and it seems to have a pretty cool premise. So this is one of those that you can't really tell until you see it.
But as for all you guys throwing out all that jive about "ooooh I've already seen it" BIG DEAL!.... and anyway no you haven't. You have seen the Japanese flick it's based on. Think of how different The Ring and Ringu are.

I went to it last night and I didn't like it! I thought that the ring was much better! i didn't like how it wasn't resolved at all, and that they saved the house...of corse it leaves it open for another movie, and I hurd that there are 4 of the Japinees version, but still...One funny thing was the firend that i went with! Everytime something scary would come on screen she would close her eyes and start singing to herself...And when she didn't so that she and I started makeing it into a comedy!! Good times Good times

Definately. The ring was scary, but I had that weird feeling in my stomach throughout the entire viewing of the Grudge. That movie is what horror movies should be all about. I was real surprised by how good the movie was, and think that the movie was done extraordinarily well. I can't believe the same guy that wrote Spiderman wrote that script though...Oh yeah, [SPOILER] did the professor who saw Yoko jawless get whacked? By the way, that was Raimi's grother in that role. All we know is that he got freaked out. I also thought that The Grudge was scarier than The Ring. But the story was much better in The Ring. The Grudge's storyline should have been better. But the movie was still scary as hell! I wasn't this scared since I watched the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that came out last year in theatres!

The Grudge was definetely A LOT better.
I watched the ring in my 8th grade English Class.
Althought I laughed at both the Ring and Grudge, out loud, as people screamed, i thought the Grudge was a better movie.

Probably all who had a "first experience" with the craziness of the house...meaning anyone who stayed long enough to have their arm pulled into water or something else small but freaky, you know?

And yea...that "on edge" feeling throughout the entire movie killed it. The fact that weird things happened in practically every other scene kept me waiting to have the crap scared out of me every second.

One scene that was freakin great...[SPOILER] when strandy spirit of the wife slowly "grew" from the top corner of the room...that was classic [/SPOILER]

I recon the grudge is scarier, the japanese grudge gave me nightmares and that is amazing cos i'm a satanic goth neo nazi gal my idea of a great dream is everybody elses nightmare. the japanese ring is freaky but not all through the movie. the grudge has done something horror movies rarely give, you'r on the edge of you'r seat through the whole movie theres always a scare just around the corner. the ring 2 wasn't scary at all.
