Rising scribes Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer ("Sahara," "A Sound of Thunder") have been hired to pen the film adaptation of "Dr. Strange" for Marvel Studios reports Deadline.

The story follows self-centred New York surgeon robbed of his skills after a car accident. He soon finds his way to a healer in the Himalayas where he learned to tap into psychic powers to battle evil wizards and other wrongdoers.

Wes Craven, David Goyer, Stephen Norrington and Guillermo del Toro have all been attached to previous incarnations of the long-gestating project. The project is likely to be the first Marvel film generated under their deal with Disney Pictures.

Donnelly and Oppenheimer are also penning the upcoming "Conan" reboot and the videogame adaptation "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune".

Psychic powers? I have a real fear that Marvel are shying away from magic with Thor, just to make it more 'believable' in the world set up in Iron Man. I hope this isn't what they're doing with Dr. Strange!
