I hate to say this but the new script for Superman is terrible. Before I get started let me say this. I am a huge fan of remakes. I love to see new spins on old movies. However, this has to be done right. After reading the synopsis of the new script I can already tell you it's terrible. Highligt the text below but it does have some spoiler information.
[SPOILER] Lex Luther in the CIA?!?!?! Please. Jimmy Olsen Gay??? Krpton turned into concentration camp instead of blowing up? This is not a new spin of Superman. This is a reinvention of Superman. This is not the smart way to go about an update. [/SPOILER]
Has anybody seen Smallville? This is the right way to put a new spin on Superman. When I first heard about the series and how they were going to change some things I thought uh oh. However, after watching the show I relized they were not reinventing Superman. They just were going to make certain changes to make it more interesting. They made some really smart choices and they did not fundamentally change the characters. This is the way to do it. However, the script for the new movie fundamentally changes things that most Superman fans have come to know and love.
Originally the writers of Smallville were approached about writing the script for the new movie. The studios should have stuck to that idea. The writers of Smallville have already proved that they can change things in a smart and exciting way without messing with the traditional elements of Superman. People will probably still go and see it for special effects but I for one will probably skip this one and wait for the next version. |
