Dragonball was released a month early exclusively in Asia where it was created and most popular. In that month, it's only made $25mil.
Now, it's grand opening in the US has garnered $2mil in its debut on its way to an estimated $5.1mil weekend. That number is only going to shrink day by day.
It needs $197.3mil worldwide just to break even. Anyone still think there'll be a sequel??
By the way, since we obviously had an impact with SaveSuperman.com as the franchise is getting a reboot, we purchased the domain DragonballFansUnite.com this morning after the box office numbers were released. This effort won't just be for a reboot, but for Akira Toriyama to reclaim the rights until a studio who cares about the source material and the fans who made it popular can step up and do justice to his creation.

I haven't seen this thing, and had made no plans to.
But I want to know (honestly) if a person with NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of ANYTHING Dragonball could enjoy this film on some level?
A child would most likely enjoy it. The fighting is very weak and never lasts more than 30 secs. But I have never been more honest when I say as a film in general, it is on par (if not worse than) Ultraviolet, Bloodrayne, Aeon Flux, Mortal Kombat 2, etc. The effects and fight sequences were supposed to be awesome since it was the people who did the Matrix trilogy. It was all garbage. A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." - Edward R. Murrow

oh man. a website? really? no offense, but get over this. this movie was not as terrible as I thought it was going to be, infact, i'm watching a bootleg right now and it is keeping me entertained. Now as a film maker, i was disappointed when i learned this was being made to film. It's been my dream since I was a child to make a film on this. I really wanted to tell the first saiyan saga through a trilogy with the first movie explaining everything and then ending with the death of raditz, and goku. I've loved this whole series since i was, well, born. Its just one of those things that has been with me all my life. I love this. Now, back when this was coming out, i was angry. I thought it looked very stupid. Then i read IGN's review, and decided to give it an open minded chance. Now, of course, differences stick out like a sore thumb, but besides from that, it kind of has that feel. I mean, I'd rather see this in theaters than fast and really f**king stupid (Fast/Furious). This tells an okay story, I'm enjoying this more than the watchmen adaption. You guys just need to stop wasting your time bashing this movie and go protest like, Terminator Salvation or something. I mean, I kinda feel bad for you guys....
oh and btw, whos gonna watch army of darkness tommorow in honor of the worlds most celebrated zombie? lol. please, out of all seriousness though, i would this topic of dragonball though.

It worked for SaveSuperman.com. Robinov announced a reboot and Singer admitted he no longer has a contract for a sequel. So I ask you, why not one for Dragonball?? If you're that big of a fan, you know this is NOT a film based on the manga. It has the names, but not the substance. If you hope to one day tell the tale of the Saiyans, you should be happy about this new website.
well, as you can tell from my amount of postings, i visit this website not to often. and i didn't want to see a film of the manga. thats what i'm going to do. What i saw was potential. I just finished watching it online. It was not terrible. The fights were short and some of the acting was weak but, it was actually kind of entertaining. I enjoyed it, and would give it 2.5/5. I understand that superman returns was quite a bore and could of been way better. But you see what they want to do now? Last time i checked, they wanted to make superman darker. Thats just really stupid, cause it takes away the goodness that only superman has. So, that reboot may not be a great thing. I'm not ruin anyones fun in bashing this movie, but as a fan, i did enjoy it. I will buy the blu ray. I just think it could of been a loootttt worse. But it wasn't.

Oh yeah, I mean, this movie bombed, which must mean that it's an awful horrible film that no one could possibly enjoy, I mean, seriously, every single movie that's bombed in theaters has been just awful, I mean, just really really horrible. Just like all of those other movies that bombed in the theaters, like Citizen Kane, Fight Club, Wizard of OZ, Donnie Darko, Office Space, It's a Wonderful Life, Bladerunner, what a bunch of awful movies those were.......
And yes, I am aware that there have been plenty of flops that were almost universally disliked (catwoman comes to mind), I'm just saying that just because a movie is a box office failure, doesn't make it an awful movie. They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing..................... Oh, there they go

You're totally right. In twenty years this film is going to be hailed as one of the best films of all time. Really it'll enter AFI's Top Ten by 2029.
Give me a break. This turd is not going to be the next Vertigo , flop or no flop.

I'm not saying that Dragonball Evolution is going to be the next Citizen Kane or the next Vertigo, but for some people it could very well be the next "Pitch Black", a movie that you discover in the bargin bin at walmart, and end up enjoying immensely, heck Pitch Black's massive dvd sales over a period of years even garnered a sequel. Listen, I haven't even seen the movie, for all I know it could be the next "clock stoppers"; all I'm saying, is that just because a movie flops, that doesn't automatically make it an awful movie; I'm just trying to make a point, and playing the devil's advocate, amongst a sea of people who are trying way to hard to be super-cool-internet-hipst ers. TF2 will make more than Wolverine and Star Trek. I don't know about Terminator 4, but TF2 (since it's not facing a Spider-Man or POTC sequel) should be the #1 film of the year. I really don't see anything that could beat it.
TF2 will make more than Star Trek? LMAO!!! That ain't gonna happen. Star Trek has a lot more psych than TF2 has. The non Star Trek fans are loving it. It has a lot of really positive reviews a lot more than any other film this year have. Star Trek is going to knock all the other films this year out of the water. Star Trek is almost another TDK. TF2 and Terminator 4 both look good but they don't look badass or epic as Star Trek though. Star Trek is officially back and cooler than ever!
Completely disagree. Everyone knows Transformers now. Even if they weren't big fans during their childhood, the first movie was such a resounding success that it converted normal non-transformer fans INTO fans. Everyone knows the characters and wants to see more of what Bay does best: Giant Robots with Giant Explosions.
Now that not to say that Star Trek won't do the exact same thing the first Transformers film did (convert people into fans) but it is a new take on the franchise (which I think is great, but don't believe the entire public knows yet). I believe younger people might dismiss the movie just for its title "Star Trek", making assumptions about what it's about, believing it to be more of the '60s version.
And lastly, sequels (for the most part) put up HUGE numbers. Especially for a movie that was loved the first time around, and has had enormous hype through the net and tv. Recent examples: Spider-man, Pirates of the Carribean.
I will be seeing both movies, with a guarantee that I will love them both. Now, back to the topic at hand: DRAGONBALL Z SUCKS! |

I most disagree. The general public recognizes Star Trek a lot more than Transformers. Star Trek is almost popular as Star Wars. Most of the general public have heard of the original series, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager except Enterprise. Star Trek also has conventions. Does Transformers even has those besides Comic Con? Transformers died right after G1 ended. Most the general public never heard of Beast Wars or the newer crap. The first Transformers film resurrected them.
I forgot to add this in my last post If SM3 didn't got the psych than TF1 would have been the #1 film of the year. Now TF2 is competing with Star Trek. Star Trek is going to win this one and it has a new fresh start. It has been several years since there was a Star Trek film and it has been 2 years since there was a TF film. I think more people will see a franchise that hasn't a film for several years now. Anyways Star Trek has been dead since 2001 to the general public since they never heard of Enterprise and it had low ratings and was cancelled in 2005.
100% Star Trek and Superman fan.

Beast Wars was actually among the more popular Transformers storylines and had found a new fanbase in the mid-90s. It just wasn't as well noticed as Transformers is now because there weren't the blockbuster films to back it up. That first paragraph has a lot of assumptions in it. You really know what the "general public" recognizes more? I am a very mild fan of both and probably can represent a part of that "general public" you were talking about. I know of almost all the different shows from each, but have never watched them.
Yeah the new transformers film brought them back to popularity, but the new Star Trek movie is going to do the same thing for that franchise. The last few star trek movies were just full of fail, and most of the shows besides the original and TNG, just seem 'bleh' to me. Hopefully this refreshing new take on it will wipe the slate clean and bring a whole new fan base like transformers did. With Transformers having a hugely popular movie under its belt already, I think it most likely will earn more money than star trek. |

I'm a little confused on your part when you said Sm3 would not have been 1st in the box office without its psych.....
Just the fact that Sm3 was going to have the symbiote in it garnered a lot of hype.....
So without Venom, it wouldn't have made as much as it did? 319 mil versus 336 mil. |

FAIL
Oh yes. I would say "most" as in general public do know about star trek but only for it's ridiculous trekkies, low budget original series, putting people to sleep, and several satires. It's kind of a joke. I mean I'm sure Stark trek will make a good amount of money...but rlly...more than Transformers?? Really??? oh no...oh no...
Just saying...everyone and their dog likes transformers...even star wars...Trekkies like Trek for the most part. Yeah eventually this world will slap you in the face and you'll realize what you really needed
