Jackie Chan Injures Back - Carried from the Scene

SUBMITTED BY LClem

December 7, 2004 — From Yahoo News HK and Jackie Chan's official site: 2004-12-07 Since it began filming again, "The Myth" has suffered accidents. Tony Ho fell off a horse, Patrick Tam broke his finger and Jackie Chan injured his back again when he fell off his horse the other day. The pain was so great, he could not move and had to be taken back to his hotel to rest. The accident happened last Saturday (4 Dec) while Jackie Chan, Patrick Tam and Director Stanley Tong were on the Jingxi prairie, Beijing, filming a huge military scene. When the accident occurred, Jackie Chan and Patrick Tam were riding. The cause was too much sand being blown around, frightening the horses. Because Patrick Tam is not a horseman, he fell off and as Jackie Chan tried to help him, he, too, was pulled off his horse. Both actors ended up falling. Patrick Tam injured his right leg, right knee and part of his back, while Jackie Chan wounded an old injury when the heavy sword he was carrying fell on him. However, Jackie Chan ignored the severe pain and continued filming, wanting to finish the scene. However, the moment he had finished, he fell down, unable to move. Crew members had to carry him back to his hotel to rest. Director Stanley Tong also gave Jackie Chan a day to recuperate. Injuries are all part of Jackie Chan's 'package' and this time, the injury could be described as agonising - so much so, that it brought him to tears. The one thing that comforted him was the Golden Horse Film Awards ceremony in Taiwan where "New Police Story" won four awards - a big victory. The Golden Horse Film Awards greatly comforted him. Jackie Chan said: "During this rest period, I was both injured and pleasantly surprised. Both JCE and Benny Chan received their deserved honours. Making 'New Police Story' involved many difficulties but the results were worth it. Daniel Wu has also gone from a nobody to the 'best supporting actor', as well as the JC Team and Chung-Chi Lee, who won the 'Best Action Choreography' award. I think they are more ecstatic than I am. I really have to thank the Golden Horse Film Awards' appraisal. Amongst the four awards, however, I am most delighted with the 'Audience Choice Award' -- absolutely ecstatic." As for Patrick Tam (who caused Jackie Chan's injury), he said he felt very guilty and hoped Jackie Chan wouold recover very soon in an interview yetserday. Patrick Tam, himself, however, was not injured badly. But the director said he [Patrick Tam] was far too rough, so they would skip that day's military scene and return to it later. http://hk.news.yahoo.com/041206/10/17cgt.html
