Superman Sequel For Summer 2009

SUBMITTED BY pimpjoe_esb

July 21, 2006

If director Bryan Singer has his way, Superman will take to the air a second time. Singer, who directed the current "Superman Returns," told fans Friday at Comic-Con International, that he has had discussions with Warner Bros. Pictures about directing a sequel for release in the summer of 2009. "Superman Returns," starring Brandon Routh, has grossed $169 million domestically to date, a figure that has been regarded by some observers as a disappointment given the movie's production costs of more than $200 million.

tHE PROBLEM WITH THE SUPERMAN RETURNS MOVIE!

There really aren't many issues from the movie that makes the movie not very good. People over-exaggerate on how bad this movie really was. The problem was definently not the director, Bryan Singer, if it were up to me on who to decide who should direct the movie I would had probably picked him. The only mistake he made was not directing the movie, but choosing the leading cast. I believe he should had never picked Brandon Routh as Superman! For such an important role he should have been more careful on who to on playing Superman. But don't get me wrong, Brandon Routh as Superman wasn't the only casting mistake made by Singer and the casting directors, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane was the worst casting choice I have ever seen in a movie to date!! You can not tell me you coudn't find a better person to play as such an important role as Lois Lane. Kate Bosworth looks like she doesn't have a sarcastic bone in her body! And everyone knows that being sarcastic is a great deal of importance in the role of Lois Lane! I was absolutely in awe and distrought to learn that they acctually picked her out of all people to play Lois Lane. They might as well picked an unknown to play the important role as Lois Lane! If I had to pick from either of the two to leave and if I could only pick one I would have to pick Kate Bosworth to leave the Superman cast, thats how bad I deliberatly do not like Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, I'd rather keep that horrific costume that Superman had to wear. That gets me to another point in the movie, that costume was indeed very, very bad! The burgundy just wasn't working! I understand that the burgundy turns into a bright red in the right type of light but it just wasn't working! Bring back the red! For the sake of Superman fans everywhere, bring back the red! The burgundy wasn't the only problem with the costume and I think alot of people know where I am going with this, the famous logo on the Man of Steel's chest! It is too small and it looks fake! It's too plastic like looking! It's horrible! Brandon Routh just could not make the costume work any better then him as Superman! He was just way too skinny to play the greatest super-hero ever! They could've atleast made him gain 20 more pounds of muscle! I saw the movie and he was good as playing Clark Kent, he even reminded me of how the late Cristopher Reeve played him. But playing Superman is more important then playing Clark! You have to be more careful on who to play the first super-hero ever! Another problem now was the bland storyline! It could have been way better! I mean Lois has moved on with another man while Superman left for about 5 years! He came back and I just didn't believe Lois' reaction on seeing him again! I don't even remember how her reaction was! That's how bad Kate Bosworth played the fearless reporter! There could've been alot more problems in this movie with this great love triangle going on here! They could've done more with it!!! And I am getting very tired of these Superman movies not showing the true power of Superman!!! In every movie he always has the same villain, the infamous Lex Luthor. Superman does have villains, they might not be as well known as the Batman villains but there is one great villain that Superman has that people are just dying to see on the big screne, Brainiac! When will he be in the movie??? They could atleast put Deathstroke! Another one of Supermans enemies! At this point I really don't care who the villain is as long as he has some type of super power and actually poses as a threat to Superman! Lex Luthor can't always be the villain! And speaking of Lex Luthor, it is almost predictable on how the ending will be with Lex. One of his bimbo mistresses will end up turning on him and help Superman! It happens in like every movie! Is this the only way you can think of Superman defeating Lex?? If it is then that is very sad! I could write a much better story then that and wich I will one day!! And if Lex was really evil then wouldn't he kill the girl who betrayed him and helped his arch enemy?? I just don't believe that Lex is really that evil! It is more like an act that he puts up to make people fear him!
As I was watching the movie for the first time I was overcome with boredom! Atleast until they showed the ultimate cliffhanger! Lois' child is actually Clarks child not her fiance whatever his name is I just call him Cyclops since he played him in the X-men trilogies. This was great and I was immediately into the movie! But I was puzzled that they did not show Lois being puzzled with the fact that she gave birth to the son of Superman since she is not supposed to remember having sex with Superman in th Fortress of Solitude in the second movie. This could've also made the movie better, should've brought up another conflict! The ending was alright but I was hoping for another confrontation with Superman and Lois. But unfortunately that was not the case. But I guess this was supposed to start up a much needed hype for the sequel. It left me wondering what would happen next! I still don't understand how you make a long awaited movie like Superman and no one really watches it! How on earth can this movie not do as well as expected?? With a great cast (with Kate Bosworth and Brandon Routh an excpetion), this movie should have blew everyone else in the box office away! But somehow it didn't! And I gave the reason why above! It is ashame when you'd rather watch a sitcom about a character then watching the long awaited movie! The straight to tv Smallville movie was more entertaining then the big screne Superman movie! I think a big part of this was Tom Welling! He, I believe is the 21st century's best Superman/Clark Kent actor, even though it is only a sitcom! My advise to the people making the Superman: The Man of Steel (the sequel to Superman Returns) to ditch Kate Bosworth and Brandon Routh and to get Tom Welling to play Superman and to get someone else play Lois, I'd even be happy if they pick the girl who played Lois in Smallville, she has the Lois thing nailed down and creates the character as her own! I'd rather see the Smallville cast play in the movie then the real movie cast! The movie would be much better! I am afraid that if these changes aren't made now then the sequel would do worst then Superman Returns and that just can't be acceptable! I mean c'mon! It's SUPERMAN!!!!!!!!
Thank you for reading my opinions.
