CD Exclusive: The Hills Have Eyes Unrated DVD Review!
FEATURE
POSTED 2006-06-16 | PRINT | MORE ON THIS COUNTDOWN

By Fred Hill

Wes Craven's 1977 horror flick The Hills Have Eyes came back to the big screen in 2006 with his seal of approval. The latest version of Hills comes to DVD on June 20, 2006 and will be sure chill you to the bone.

The movie on the Unrated version is 7 minutes shorter then the rated version, however it is the one to watch in a dark room all by yourself, ok you might want a few close friends in the room with you. It is scarier, darker, and much more bloodier. This version is by far the right one to watch when you are looking to be scared.

There are two commentaries, one with the director/co-screenwriter Alexandre Aja, art director/co-screenwriter Gregory Levasseur, and producer Marianne Maddalena where they all talk about the film process and little stories from the set. The second is with producers Wes Craven and Peter Locke, which has the same basic content as the first commentary just a different point of view, and Craven compare the two different films.

The sole documentary on the disc is just under hour and is worth watching. Every 10 minutes it focuses on certain scene or technique that was used during the film. It does a good job of showing how everything was brought together from start to finish, and the thought process of the screenwriters.

The other special features on the disc include video diaries that run a total of around 10 minutes and a music video by The Finalist. They are worth watching once if you are looking to learn as much as you can about the film, but you will not miss anything if you don't check it out.

Even though there is a lack of special features on the disc there was no disappointment with it. Over all the film is very good at getting that chill running down your spine and a documentary that is worth watching where you can tell there was some thought put into it, not something just slapped together to pack a disc.

You can pick up the unrated version of The Hills Have Eyes at Amazon.com for just under $17.00 here, or you can get the version shown in the theatre for the same price here. If you want to own the original 1977 version by Wes Craven, then pick it up here for $18.00.
