From Universal Studios Home Entertainment, The Interpreter comes to DVD October 4, 2005!

Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn star in the action-packed thriller, The Interpreter. In one of the hidden corridors of power at United Nations headquarters, translator Silvia Broome (Kidman) overhears a potentially explosive secret about a planned assassination attempt. When federal agent Tobin Keller (Penn) investigates her claim and digs deeper into Silvia's dangerous past, he begins to question whether she is a victim - or a suspect.

Bonus Features for the DVD include:

Alternate Ending

Deleted Scenes

Sydney Pollack at Work: From Concept to Cutting Room

Interpreting Pan & Scan vs. Widescreen

Feature Commentary with Director Sydney Pollack

The Ultimate Movie Set: The United Nations

A Day in the Life of Real Interpreters

After going over my review I realized it was pretty much an echo of the review that our notorious Susanne Robbins gave when the movie was released. Great minds think alike! Instead of posting two reviews of the story I'll leave it to you, for a refresher you can check out her fabulous review below and I'll give you the down and dirty on the bonus features.

First let me say that the much talked about alternate ending didn't add anything to the film for me. I know that the director was at one time determined to have that alternative in the film but, honestly I prefer the theatrical ending myself. Of course, I've run across a few different view points on the ending so it seems to be a toss up.

Now, I love the bonus features on a DVD -they often bring an extra perspective to a movie and this one is no exception. Aside from the iffy alternate ending, the other features are really cool. The Sidney Pollack at Work was a fantastic glimpse behind the scenes and into the workings of one of the best directors around. His attention to detail is exceptional. An unusual feature for this film is the Interpreting Pan & Scan vs. Widescreen - it's a little technical, but still interesting to see the director's perspective on how choosing your film format can bring a new cinematic dimension to the story (definitely not something I've run across before!). The deleted scenes, were so-so. Nothing earth shattering and while interesting, I can see why they left out all of them.

The Ultimate Movie Set: The United Nations (a first as I understand it) and A Day in the Life of Real Interpreters was by far the best of the features for this DVD. Getting to see the rooms of the UN Headquarters and seeing a day in the life of a real interpreter was very interesting.

The movie and bonus features for this DVD are definitely worth checking out!
